Hari’s Mom’s Peanut Chutney and Idli

 

TV host Hari Kondabolu shares his mother, Uma’s, unforgettable Peanut Chutney. Serve with fresh breakfast cakes, known as Idli.

 
Ingredients
  • I cup of peanuts

  • 1 tsp oil

  • 3 chilis

  • 1 small piece of ginger

  • 2 tsp black gram

  • 2 tsp green gram

  • 2 tsp toor dal

  • Cumin, mustard seed & dry leaves

Step 1

Roast the peanuts in 1 tsp of the oil. Set aside.

Step 2

Roast the chilis, ginger, black gram, green gram, and toor dal.

Step 3

Mix with the peanuts and grind all together.

Idli recipe: 

 Soak 3 cups of urad dal over night. Grind it . Mix it with cream of rice 2 cups.
Leave it over night. Add salt to your taste. And steam them in idli maker.

Hari Kondabolu, the comedian describes how he used to shun his mom’s cooking as a kid but grew to love it as he got older, wiser and more grateful for his mother’s gifts in the kitchen. I felt like I got to know his mother, Uma in this episode and she is a remarkable woman. Wise and funny and a great cook. Hari shared her recipe for peanut chutney served with breakfast cakes called Idli and now you can enjoy it too.
